Episode 71: Balancing Chronic Health Conditions & Entrepreneurship [featuring Hillary Bolter]

Do you dream of entrepreneurship but hesitate whenever you think of the “what ifs” around health care and being able to work for yourself?

Are you working for yourself now while struggling with a chronic health condition and wondering how to keep to it all together as you try to find balance between business and health?

Do you ever worry about what the heck you would do if a chronic health condition were ever to appear for you?

Well, this episode is for you.

I talk with Hillary Bolter, therapist and motivational interviewing expert and trainer, about the effect that chronic health conditions have on entrepreneurship.

Top 3 reasons to listen to the entire episode:

  1. Understand that chronic health conditions don’t always have to put a stop to your entrepreneurial career.
  2. Learn how to create space for healing and self-care by shifting your processes and accepting help when needed and available.
  3. Identify ways to reshape your professional and personal lifestyle and habits to accommodate for substantial life changes without stopping you from following your passions.

So, if you find yourself facing difficult, sometimes unexpected, major life changes due to chronic health conditions, know that you are not alone.

It can painful and challenging, but it is not necessarily impossible to make adjustments to your process to help you continue your entrepreneurial journey. This is a tricky and very personal issue to navigate, so it’s encouraged that you seek support, ask for help, and be open to change.

And make sure to give yourself time, patience, and kindness as you navigate through these life transitions.

About the Podcast

The Neurodivergent Entrepreneur
Honest conversations about building a business while Neurodivergent, the self-doubt, the chaos, and everything in between.
The Neurodivergent Entrepreneur is a podcast for ADHD, Autistic, and all other neurodivergent entrepreneurs who are building businesses, creative work, and lives that actually fit how their brains work. Hosted by Patrick Casale, LCMHC, this show is for people who
want to create meaningful work, create outside of the box, grow their impact, and build something sustainable without losing themselves in the process.

Being a neurodivergent entrepreneur can feel like holding a lot of contradictions at once. You may have big ideas, deep passion, creative energy, and a strong desire to do things differently. You may also be navigating burnout, masking, self-doubt, perfectionism, rejection sensitivity, executive dysfunction, inconsistent energy, and the pressure to keep showing up when your capacity is already stretched. This podcast speaks to that reality honestly, because building a business around your brain, your values, and your lived experience can be powerful, complicated, messy, and deeply personal.

Patrick Casale is a chronically ill, AuDHD, mental health therapist, entrepreneur, TEDx speaker, event host, group practice owner, and neurodivergent business owner who has built, grown, burned out, pivoted, and kept going. His work brings together clinical insight, lived experience, business perspective, and real conversation about what it actually takes to create something that feels values aligned. His conversations are direct, compassionate, unfiltered, and practical, with room for both the emotional reality of entrepreneurship and the concrete decisions that shape a sustainable business.

New episodes drop every Wednesday and feature honest conversations with neurodivergent entrepreneurs, creators, therapists, business owners, and leaders. Together, Patrick and his guests explore entrepreneurship, identity, mental health, chronic health,
creativity, leadership, systems, money mindset, visibility, community, sustainable growth, and the behind-the-scenes reality of creating work that matters.

Build your dream business. Protect your capacity. Work with your brain instead of against it.
